It’s been a while since the internet has seen (heard?) audio from Dr. Truelove (fka Mr. Truelove, yeah he got his doctorate in this interim). Dr. Truelove is the aka of NYC’s Avenue Blockparty who is known for their visceral and frenetic live performances and their extremely versatile vocal style. I (riley) have been a fan since one of their sets melted my brain at the grove some time btw 2015 and 2016.

Dr. Truelove’s Mortal Foil is a collection of tracks meticulously built over the last couple years. Blending crushing noise and lush ravey textures, this record is as dance-friendly as it is introspective. It winds up and then keeps winding up. Backed with “Sun Erase Me” -- an outpouring of feeling and a tying-up of loose ends Dr Truelove expands on the performed work we’ve seen him do at shows these past couple years.
